Actually Lishu's mother was a friend of the emperor and ah duo and both see lishu as their own daughter after Lishu's mother passed away. it's crazy to think that the emperor was more fatherly towards linshu than her own biological father.

The emperor genuinely seems like a caring and good-hearted person. He personally sought out help for Lihua when she was sick, he protected Lishu from his creepy father, and also the fact that he kept Ah-Duo around as consort even though she was much older than the other consorts its clear he had genuine affections for her.

I think the current emperor sees Lishu more as his daughter because of her age and not as his sister. But the point is the same: he kept Lishu by his side as a concubine so that the girl's father wouldn't give her to another old man. But the current emperor only visits Lishu to talk and never touches her. . . . . . I also read somewhere that the current emperor is looking for a good partner for Lishu, who might be Basen, but he ordered that the boy must wait until Lishu is legally an adult. I hope this is true and it would show their protective father-daughter relationship even better ❤

More than a little sister is implied that like Ah duo, the emperor saw Lishu like a daughter. Because of laws and political things he couldn't adopt her, especially because he couldn't formally marry Ah duo especially after she lost her ability of conceive a heir. So he had to use this method to protect her.

I do like how the current Emperor does his best to be reasonable, but he is forced to make certain decisions. Later in the story, when Lishu’s maids frame her, he is forced to put her in confinement, but Maomao is allowed to prove Lishu’s innocence. He’s even fine with Basen proposing to Lishu after her time at a convent is up.

Until a certain green grimlin showed up and changed things, I feel that the emperor had planned for Lishu to marry Jinshi once Jinshi took on the role of the crown prince. But Jinshi refused the role and instead pretended to be a eunuch after winning a bet.

I think the emperor and Ah Duo joined forces to protect the little girl. it is shown in the 1st season that Lishu has alot of daughterly affections toward Ah Duo. this could be the very reason why the emperor put her in the rear palace, where he knew that with Ah duos presence she will be taken care of very well. this not just shows the his greatness as a father figure, but also the trust and respect he had for his former consort.
