Insects can be a great option to break up the overuse of birds. Like a giant dragonfly, or a swarm of bees controlling a suit of samurai armor, a monarch buttery mage.
For the ocean watcher, coral is an obvious one, but you could also do something to represent the deep ocean where light doesn't reach, maybe it's all a dark color except for a glowing eye (like an angler fish). Another thing you could try to take inspiration from is undersea volcanoes or vents, since those support a lot of life in the deep sea.
I love your willingness to revisit designs based on constructive feedback!! They turned out amazing! Good art!!!
You made Janelle so much better! It's incredible how you were able to re-explore based off of feedback and evolve your artwork! ⭐Inspiring!!!
You coud use an infinity symbol instead of the hourglass, and any timed cards can have the # of turns or whatever. You could also use the larger # but then add (x100) in smaller text, so a 3 would actually be 300.
The new denizen art is absolutely fantastic- but it does make the old illustrations that were kept look out of place. Blacksmith Bart isn't too affected too badly and still looks great BUT Scout Marilyn just doesn't even look like it is the same person as regular Marylin, in artstyle and in character. The new Guardians look fantastic. Great job!
I'd suggest using an ouroboros for the ongoing effect icon. Thematically fits with the vibe of your game and represents infinity.
Bro you just added so much value by redoing them as different illustrations from rarity. Like the deck just got so much more interesting and nuanced. SOLID MOVE!
Love this series! If you could upgrade the rainbow watcher to a prism, in the style of the pink floyds album cover „dark side of the moon“, would be awesome!
I'm so glad you redid the Denizens. I didn't realize that they needed a remake until you remade them and they look even better than before. Some suggestions for the watchers starting with jungle: You could do a watcher covered in woven vines and foliage, one wearing a jaguar teeth necklace, another having some sort of skull as a mask, could also do something similar from crash bandicoot when he puts on the mask or Aku Aku or animal masks that maybe mimic the cryptid, could also do something like a totem pull. For ocean themed you can have a watcher wearing a puka shell necklace, maybe one covered in barnacles, another watcher could be covered in a fishing net, one could resemble driftwood or a message in a bottle, another cool one could one be made out of or covered in colorful coral.
The reworked Denizens look SO good! The dynamic poses tho!😍 To echo some lf the other comments, I think having the humans on the back of the sky guardians makes them feel a bit less mighty and "free". If you wanna keep the humans to show scale, maybe have the guardian holding a person in its talons; there's some humor potential there too with a little dangling human, playing off the party-dude lore. I'm getting so invested in this series lol 😂❤️ (Dolph-Lundfin is a legend✨🐬)
I just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you for sharing this journey with us and letting us be a part of it. You could've shared this behind a paywall and limited our input (for the sake of your sanity) and you didn't, you chose to share this with all of us 💞 Mad respect for going back and taking the time to level up all the Denizens.
Bro the amount of epic art you’re creating for this project is insane. Pluuus all the filming and editing. Props to all the hard work and creativity you’ve put in. Amazing 🫡🔥
Dude the new Janelle is infinity times better. I think its the chin and the face shape. Im sure it was so much work to redo it but it was totally worth it. They look amazing now! Trust yourself!
As someone who’s played one of the big three TCGs for over two decades, I want to highlight something you may want to consider regarding your point-based deckbuilding system. While it’s a creative way to balance decks using rarity, there’s a big part of the community, especially collectors and competitive players who value playing max rarity or keeping the rarity consistent throughout their deck. Putting restrictions on that might alienate some of your most passionate players or even new players coming into the game at any given time. That said, there are great ways to still use rarity differences like alternate stat lines, play requirements, or effects without hard-limiting how players build. Ultimately, it’s your call on what’s right for your game’s identity. Designing a TCG is a grind, and finding that mix of nostalgic feel with unique mechanics takes iteration. Keep pushing you’re inspiring fellow creators like myself to rethink and improve, and that’s what matters most.
You have to do a coral watcher! 25:40
For the jungle biome, maybe you could do a poison dart frog! Love the new edits, keep it up!
The fact that you don't shy away from iteration and redrawing so many illustrations is commendable! The new versions of the characters look great!
I’m glad you went back and revisited the denizens! But my one critique is that Riku now looks very static in his basic card. I’m not sure how you would want to tackle the mystery but it seems out of place now.
