Welcome to Part 3 - and the finale - of the CAT D4-7U start-up series!
In this episode, I’m wrapping up the project and (spoiler alert) getting this rare 1958 Caterpillar to finally run under its own power. After fighting with the pony motor, chasing down ignition issues, and replacing the magneto, it’s time to find out if all the effort pays off.
You’ll see the last few key repairs, the first successful fire-up, and a proper run in the field, something this machine hasn’t done in years.
This CAT D4-7U is one of the last 55 ever made with the factory seat-start setup, and bringing it back to life has been one wild ride.
Thanks for following along, and if you’ve enjoyed the journey, don’t forget to LIKE, COMMENT, and SUBSCRIBE for more vintage iron, Caterpillar history, and off-grid wrenching content.
