The Honest Woodcutter
Once upon a time, a poor woodcutter accidentally dropped his axe into a river. He sat down and wept, for he had no money to buy another. Suddenly, a water spirit appeared, holding a golden axe.
"Is this yours?" asked the spirit.
The woodcutter shook his head. The spirit then brought out a silver axe.
"Is this yours?" Again, the woodcutter said no. Finally, the spirit brought out the woodcutter's own iron axe.
"Is this yours?" The woodcutter smiled and nodded. Pleased with his honesty, the spirit gave him all three axes as a reward.
Moral: Honesty is always rewarded.
