In this video I describe how I capture landscape scenes having a dark foreground and a brighter sky background (high dynamic range) with a single exposure by using the camera's histogram (Live View not required, but it is advantageous). By slightly underexposing the scene, you can maintain all the camera's pixel data and then bring back the detail in those darker areas with a simple slide adjustment to the shadows in Camera Raw or Lightroom.
