Sharp tailed grouse live in leks, which can be an elevated patch of grassland, from the size of a baseball diamond to a small house. Grouses live in communities of up to 2 dozen males in a lek, with the dominant males in the center. The leks are mainly used for males to display their courtship dance which looks like a plane taking off. The faster and longer a male is able to dance, the more impressed the females will be.
